Mahalo a nui loa to the 216 people that participated in the Septemebr 26th T.A.G. graffiti clean up. From school clubs, to neighbors, to people, "that just loathe graffiti", it was a great event.
Teams went out on a truck with all their supplies to their area, and they worked their way back to Prince Kuhio School. Two cakes were the hit of our luncheon, as they were donated by Cakeworks.
One new neighbor brought a powerwasher truck and cleaned a lava rock wall, by the Humane Society. We have a great community.
The Bus brought out their crews and with our volunteers, every bus stop in McCully & Mo'ili'ili received a new coat of paint. The City sent out their Facility Maintenance crew and cleaned Varsity Place as it hasen't been cleaned in over 30 years...all cars were moved, weeds were wacked, opala taken off the street and it was all hauled away. Varsity Place is now two feet wider due to the removal of this material.
It was a great project, we need to catch our breath, start asking for donations of bottled water, brushes (3 or 4 inch), gloves and prepare for our Spring clean up. Date to be announced as there are SATs, proms and other events we don't want to interfere with.
Once again, mahalo everyone. We can plan the events, but if the volunteers don't come, we are nothing. I like what we do for Mo'ili'ili.

Aloha All,

Our next Graffiti clean up of Mo'ili'ili & McCully will be held on Saturday, 26 September. We will meet at Prince Kuhio School at 8:00 a.m.; assign people to teams; hold a short safety talk; and have everyone on the road by 8:20 a.m. A truck will take teams & supplies to the far end of the clean up area. Truck, donated by Councilmember Kobayashi.

Volunteers are needed. The contact is marinhi@aol.com ans she will send you the details. We have the paint, rollers, brushes, litter bags, etc --- we just need you, your family, friends, neighbors, etc. If you have 6 or more volunteers, we can arrange for you to do your own street/ part of the neighborhood!

Please kokua and join us in keeping our neighborhood clean. Yes, there are other problems, we are working on bulky items, shopping carts, homeless, affordable housing, keeping streams clean, a dog park and numerous others. Not for this discussion!

Cleaning up graffiti is one we can all kokua. Unable to walk far, we need assistance in cleaning the rollers & brushes... a sit down job! Aloha.

Please see the 20 May Honolulu Advertiser story on the 16 May clean up lead by T.A.G. We had 5th grade students from Iolani; the JROTC from Kaimuki High & cheerleaders; and the Hawaii alumni from Yale University all cleaning up the Kaimuki Ave.; Kapahulu Ave.; and Date Street superblock. Aside from removing graffiti & stickers along the streets, the JROTC cleaned graffiti from under bridges and the 5th graders removed invasive species from the streambank.
