Introduce yourself!
I was born in Honolulu on April 10, 1937, to Dr. Mori and Florence Hayashi and grew up with my brother Roy in Punchbowl and Nuuanu. We graduated from Roosevelt High School. My father was a dentist in Chinatown and mother was a kindergarten teacher.

I attended Pembroke College, now called Brown University in Rhode Island, and Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois. I returned to Hawaii with my husband Dr. Paul Kobayashi to set up his dental practice in Honolulu. We have three children; Susan, Mark and Dale.

I was first elected to public office in 1981 when there was only a handful of women in the legislature; Senators Mary Jane McMurdo, Patsy Young, Pat Saiki and Mary George. I served in the State Senate until 1994. I chaired the Senate Ways & Means Committee for two years and learned how government budgets are, or should be managed. I was named “Legislator of the Year” by several organizations.

In 1997, I became Executive Assistant to the Mayor and from 1997 thru 2002 and served as a Special Assistant to the Governor.

I was elected to the City Council in 2002, and ran for Mayor in 2008.

Hi Ann!
Now we're friends on this site as well as on the campaign trail! As Martha Stewart would say, "this is a good thing". I hope you can find a few moments from time to time to let the other members know how much we need and appreciate their support.
If elected-no, when elected!- I know you will do a superb job in holding city government accountable and responsible for all of their fiscal and legislative actions. Many thanks for putting yourself in the direct line of fire once again, as we need you more than ever,

Good to see you here, Ann, and I know how much you care about the Mc Cully/ Moiliili area, as well as the rest of District V and the whole island of Oahu! That's why our ballots were mailed the same day we got them.
Fingers crossed!
