The marque/sign from the Varsity Theater is available to a good home. Since the theater was demolished this marque has been carefully preserved at Pucks' Alley. Now it has to be moved, or destroyed.
If you know of a good home for this marque, please e-mail Wolf, the general manager at Varsity Bar & Restaurant. We do not want this classic piece of hawaiiana to disappear into a landfill.

Anyone have additional information on this tragedy?
Walking in the area, Can be so dangerous.
I felt that the riskiest places were on King Street b/c they have few traffic lights, but this is plain sad.
I cross at that area, I guess for protection, It would be better to go through the park and avoid the streets.
The crossing at Kapiolani and University seems to hgave good visability but the crossing lights could use some updating, I can not always see the ok to cross light, it is…

It finally made it's appearance this morning, quite unexpectedly, which made me do a double take. The morning started off quietly. After the usual morning routine, I sat outside on the stairs and proceeded to blow bubbles and watch them journey towards the sky. Bubbles sound crunchy when they pop, which is a rather interesting sound. All of a sudden, the loud sounds of a truck engine. As trash pick-up is not on a Monday, I was curious. As I watched in disbelief, a trash truck made it's way down…

He's about 15, caucasian and slim, rides a skateboard, wears a helmet, wearing gray pants, and blue shirt with a light horizontal stripe, and has black dress shoes. He has light colored eyes.
He got me as I was leaving my building. I hadn't even walked thru my parking lot and he came up asking for directions to walmart. He had a handful of change too. I saw him at the next building by their stairs waiting for people to leave and asking them for money too.
Either he's really hard up or has figu…

Does anyone in Mo'ili'ili get a full night's sleep anymore?
It seems that every night I am woken up by automobiles and/or motorcycles that have outrageously loud exhaust systems. There is no reason why people should be allowed to operate vehicles that are public nuisances and hazards to public health. The effects of noise pollution on people is well documented.
There have been a couple of bills that have come before our elected officials in regard to this issue, but no progress ever seems to b…

I couldn't help but be moved by Rocky Rockwell's blog about his mother being hit by a skateboarder. Several recent incidents in Mo'ili'ili make me want to write about unsafe bicyclists. While there are some cyclists who are considerate and make attempts to share the roads and sidewalks with motorists and pedestrians, it seems that the majority are selfish and dangerous.
As a pedestrian, I have been hit twice by bicyclists on sidewalks. As a motorist, I have come close to hitting bicyclists who…

On Friday, I watched the "world premiere" of Barbarian Princess. I put the term "world premiere" in quotes because I know before the so-called world premiere there was a previous showing to a limited number of people.
At the outset I'll say this, I liked the movie and am contemplating watching it at either its second or third screening. But, I also have to say that I spoke with several other people after the movie who watched it and there are mixed reviews about it. I immediately recognized, th…

Mōʻiliʻili is a great place to live and we can make it better. We will make it better. We have to make it better.
Mōʻiliʻili is poised for greatness despite the current conditions we find ourselves in:
1.) currently serving as a dumping group,
2.) excessive amounts of graffiti on both public and private property, and
3.) a rapidly-growing homeless-ness problem.
I recently attended a meeting of a few business leaders in the area. After the meeting was over, and before I left, I was asked, "what…

So what are we doing about the homeless in the area.
I use the Waikiki Library because there are less homeless people hanging around.
I feel so bad for them, it is very hard to live on the streets, I feel we are not being kind, by ignoring them.

I'm not exactly sure what the letter of the law is for skateboarding on the sidewalk but I'm sure it's legal. I'm also pretty sure that skateboarders are supposed to yield to pedestrians--again I would have to double check this as well.
Last night around 8 PM in Kapolei my (disabled) mother was walking on the sidewalk with her neighbor Rainbow, also disabled but in an electric wheelchair, when a speeding skateboarder crashed into her propelling her into the street before landing on top of her.…

...one more thing....
Dear Our Community garden: I love walking through you; each plot is a mini adventure of growth and amazement, a testament to the beautiful rebellion against expansion reminding us humans that we are human and the lush green smell of basil and the buzzing bees against the flowing humid air is a burst of glory against the backdrop of buildings, and YES I will rub my hands against the rosemary; just to take the touch of you with me.

Redux can be a pun, because there are more ducks in the Hausten st ditch, which is the official name for our private canal, hmmmph...need a new nickname for it. Example: Hausten st is the Moiliili Motorway.
The zoo!! There are chickens in the 'hood. LEAVE THOSE CHICKENS ALONE! They are charming and funny and they eat the bugs.
I love those chickens, they make me laugh everytime I see them. I think they make our neighborhood look comfortable and welcoming.
I know there are a lot of bad things…
