Mō‘ili‘ili Matters

Where the Mō‘ili‘ili community gathers online

Does anyone in Mo'ili'ili get a full night's sleep anymore?

It seems that every night I am woken up by automobiles and/or motorcycles that have outrageously loud exhaust systems. There is no reason why people should be allowed to operate vehicles that are public nuisances and hazards to public health. The effects of noise pollution on people is well documented.

There have been a couple of bills that have come before our elected officials in regard to this issue, but no progress ever seems to be made.

One roadblock is how to determine what "too loud" is. Those studies have been done in other cities, so it should not have to cost Honolulu an exorbitant amount of money to perform those studies again.

This is a high density neighborhood, so some noise is to be expected. However, it seems that there are those who just love to annoy as many people as they can for blocks around.

Peace, please.

I put cotton in my ears at night, but sometimes the people with the Harley on Kamoku Street can be annoying when their bike is left on for while the rev it up at 12 pm. At least we were able to get the police to shut off the sirens when they speed up Kamoku Street from their hide out at Iolani School, it was very bad then. I guess letting people know what we like in our community is better than keeping quiet and giving ourselves a stomach ache.
Have a great week everyone!

Hey K: I have a few of those vehicles with modified exhaust systems that blast down Isenberg with their engines reving way past redline and the turbo relief popping because the boost pressure is way to high. There are laws but like everything else they lack enforcement.

My biggest complaint is a new tenant across the street who has loud parties every night. I have to close all my windows on the windward side of my house so I can hear myself think.
